Danielson Framework:

Domain 2: The Classroom Environment

2a. Creating an Environment of Respect and Rapport

A positive learning environment is fostered and strengthened through mutual respect and rapport between all individuals in the classroom.  Not only building relationships with each of my students, but also students building relationships with each other is prioritized, and therefore embedded within my lessons using peer work and collaboration.  A consistent effort in supporting my students as learners and individuals is evidenced through student testimonials at my student-teaching site.

2b. Establishing a Culture for Learning

Having clear intentions and expectations for learning and achievement that are clearly communicated with my students aids in establishing a culture for learning and building a positive learning environment.  An example that evidences student understanding is presented in this learning activity.  Students not only use the lesson content to self-assess their work in a movement phrase, but also use it to engage in peer feedback.

2c. Managing Classroom Procedure

My classroom management plan lays a foundation for classroom routines, procedures, and transitions that supports an efficient and effective-running classroom.  Enclosed in my management plan addresses all aspects of my ideal classroom that will further maximize student engagement and performance.

2d. Managing Student Behavior

Communicating student behavior expectations in a clear, humorous, and engaging manner encouraged my students to be more receptive in respecting these expectations.  Designed for high school students, these rules, in the form of memes and a poem, offer students strategies in helping establish and maintain an inclusive environment.  Page 3 provides a thorough explanation and purpose for each meme design.

This classroom is for us,
To think, listen, and discuss.
Enter with your full self,
But leave the negativity on the shelf. When it’s time to learn, explore, and play, Keep that mind from wandering away. What keeps us trying, keeps us improving, So let’s get up and start moving!

2e. Organizing Physical Space

It is imperative that a dance classroom provides an open physical space for all learners to feel comfortable to challenge themselves in their learning, physically and intellectually.  When student teaching in a hybrid environment, it was crucial to acknowledge every learner’s different space, and adapt my lessons and instruction to meet individual needs of students and their space.
